Any responsible doctor would only resort to surgery as a last ditch effort, and I know this because of prior back injuries, in that an operation can make things worse than they already are.

Not very.
I recommend alternative therapy, anything from reiki to massage. The surgery will be painfull on a level whether he is put into induced sleep or not. Whereas reiki will work with his bodies natural ability to heal itself. I will send reiki twice a week to him, and I recommend you look into this, for there is power in your body, and more in the universe. -Peace-

He should only try surgery after trying massage, exercise and Chiropractic care.
Many people with “pinched discs” can get completely over their problem with no surgery, and in the long run the surgery does almost nothing!
See a good Chiropractor from your insurance list. Best luck.

This is the correct answer. It totally depends on the circumstances. Sometimes nerves need to be decompressed surgically especially when they are causing motor loss. Other times conservative care and time will bring recovery.
