Thanks. I was immobilized when I heard something snap in my lumbar or sacral region 13 years ago. (during a yoga posture). I was frozen in pain and disabled. I’m still recovering. I still have relapses which leave me in extreme pain, radiating to my legs and ankles and buttocks. I amunable to function when it happens,.however I am not crippled or anything like that. The x-ray showed nothing. Could it still be a herniated disc?

@noclassatall You have to have an MRI to diagnose a herniated disc, but there are some signs that show up on an x-ray (like a dark line in the disc, called Kneutsen’s phenomenon). A torn ligament is an unstable condition, and you wouldn’t be able to move if that were the case.

do herniated discs show up on an x-ray? How can you differentiate it from a torn ligament?

good explanation. I am enduring the symptoms of lower back for sure. a lot of pain on my left side, shooting down my left leg. a burning aching, with some occassional numbness. most of the pain feels like it is btween my hip and just below my knee. having great difficulty walking , best position for relief is sitting. Pain does not go away when lying in any position
