I want to practice chiropractic, I want to know what level of degree you need in order to practice, as in start a clinic.
since no one has actually answered your question, i will. to practice chiropractic you need to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. to do this you need to have some prerequisite classes to get into a chiropractic school–which can be done in undergrad in 2-4 years. after that, you go to chiropractice school for about 3-4 years to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

I currently have sciatica (an old inury from a lifting accident) and I was wondering what would be the best fat burning excercises? I have been trying swimming however would like faster results as I normally spend 30 minutes doing cardio(15 mins on treadmill and 15 minutes on the cross trainer), I do do weights as well (machines) however this is not irritating my back for some reason Thanks all :0)
Do swimming but what ever you do don’t do breast stroke as this will aggravate the sciatica. Treadmill is okay but within your limits. cross trainer is good but again can cause problems. Use a bike as these can really help and from personal experience caused me less aggravation.
Personally I would keep up what you are doing but include the exercises that will help improve your back. With an improved back then your cardio side can increase and therefore give you greater weight loss improvements.
I am sure you have this one already under control but make sure your diet is healthy as well as you can do as much exercise as you like but if the diet isn’t right the changes will be slow to non existent.
I have included a link to my blog below where if you click on the bad back section it will take you through some useful advice that can help with sciatica. There are only 2 articles per page so you will have to click on the previous entries link at the bottom of the page to see the rest.
Finally sciatica isn’t a nice condition but the symptoms can be improved, I would highly recommend you see a chiropractor or a physiotherapist to help you with your progress (if you haven’t already) as all this advice is based on not having met you.
I hope it has been of some help and good luck with it. I too had sciatica for 2 years and now I am completely pain free and it all came down to hard work and lots of stretching.
I have been having extreme lower back pain lately.
I use a futon and a lower-back support chair.
I don’t have insurance, so a doctor or chiropracter is out of the question.
the therma care heat wraps are great! it healped so much that i am going to write the maker, i could not have gone to my sons 8th grade graduation, and you can buy the trial box at dollar genaral for 2.00. good luck and GOD BLESS, I REALLY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! if you take pain med. take a tylenol with it to boost your pain med. that helps also.
I have a shooting like pain down one side of my lower back which runs down towards my buttocks.
I am unable to bend due to this pain. And when i do, its really painful.
Does it sound like sciatica? Or just normal back pain?
Sounds possibly like sciatica / trapped nerve. My mum had really bad sciatica when she was heavily pregnant and had my little bro via c-section in the end, cos the pain was unbearable plus he was a large baby!! She still suffer from back pain now and is on medication for it.
I would maybe check with your doctor and see if he can suggest anything.
Im also currently feeling a similar pain, but havent yet been to a doctor, warm baths and heat pads and a deep heat muscular rub tends to help to relieve my aching back!
Hope that helps.
Please take a look at mine and answer, thanks

I have herniated disc from l5-s1, the pain subsided for couple of months and now it’s back. I want to see a better doc that treats this area. Who should I go see?
I too have herniated discs(cervical & lumbar) & have had back surgery at L5-S1.
A spine specialist would be my first choice, followed by either an neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon that does back surgery(not all orthos do spine surgery). Usually, the spine specialist is a neuro or ortho that does nothing but spine surgeries.
As a former surgical technician, I can tell you the only difference between the 2 physicians I mentioned, are their technique during surgery.
I would never, never, never, ever see a Chiropractor when you know for a FACT that you have a herniated disc. Manipulation is the LAST thing you want done. Manipulation with a herniated disc could cause the herniation to become larger or even worse, break off and cause permenant nerve damage.
I hope this info helps, good luck.
I went to my doctor after about a week of pain in my neck. He diagnosed me with a pinched nerve, and prescribed me Vicodin, Flexeril, and Prednozone. It’s been about 4 days since I’ve been on these medications and they only seem to knock me out, making me sleep all day, not helping with the pain.
If in the end these don’t help, what more can a doctor do for me?
I definitely agree with the last person, but I have not had much luck with chiropractors. Perhaps you should go see a physical therapist. They can do massage to ease the pain and aid in strengthening your neck. There are different therapies that both doctors can do. Yes, look outside the box. Get off of those meds!
I have been in practice for over 7 years and I am working with some chiropractic students – I am wondering what opinions you may have about what it takes to be successful in chiropractic?
I have strong opinions on this one…
First, I think it is essential that they understand the importance of their state and national professional associations. It won’t matter how good they are clinically, if there is no profession in which to practice and these associations are vital to the survival of the profession. They need to understand that BOTH are important — one to protect them on a national level and one to protect their state licensure and scope.
The second thing they need to do is sign up for a GOOD, ETHICAL coding/billing class as well as a GOOD ETHICAL Medicare class. One of the most glaring weaknesses I find in chiropractic education is the absence of these things.
In addition, these classes should include information on documentation… and the docs need to understand that not all seminars are created equally. Unfortunately, there are many people out there teaching mis- and dis-information — to the point of teaching fraudulent tactics. It is imperative that they stay away from these instructors. How do they do that? My advice would be to stay away from practice management seminars on these topics and stick with state and national association sponsored seminars.
I hope this helps. (It doesn’t help them clinically, but it sure will help keep them in practice and out of jail!)
